About Frank, maker of Boards by Frank
Frank is the maker behind Boards by Frank in Herne Hill, Perth. He turns Western Australian timber offcuts into serving boards, chopping blocks, platters and tables, and sells them at the Swan Settlers Markets every Saturday and Sunday. Every piece is hand crafted and eco-friendly.
Who is Frank?
What we can say is simple. Frank works with Western Australian timber, mostly jarrah, marri and sheoak. He gets it as offcuts and salvaged slabs, and makes boards you will use every day. The card on his stall reads "Sustainable Timber Products", and his banner says "Hand crafted, Bespoke, Eco-friendly".
Why does Frank work with offcuts?
Offcuts are the pieces a timber yard would sell cheap or throw out: too short, too odd, too knotty. Frank sees them as the best part. Knots, bark edges and cracks stay in the finished piece, so each board is different. Timber also stores carbon for as long as it lasts, which is a good reason to keep it in use.
